Lama Rod Owens visits KSC
Chenrezig weekend with Lama Chödron from KTC Monastery
Location: Retreat Cabin
4:00-6:00pm, Saturday, May 31
10:30am-12:30pm, Sunday, June 1, 2014
Important note: This weekend falls during the sacred period of Saka Dawa (May 29-June 27), commemorating Shakyamuni Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana. The merit and benefit of any practice or virtuous activity we accomplish during this time is said to be multiplied up to 100 million times. We hope you can join us!
Chenrezig weekend:
The Greensboro area had the excellent good fortune to be blessed in April by Lama Norlha Rinpoche’s presence and his bestowal of the empowerment of Chenrezig, the meditation deity who is the embodiment of the compassion of all the Buddhas. We will build on that momentum this weekend with an in-depth introduction to the practice of Chenrezig and how it can help us bring our own innate compassion to fruition both in formal practice and in everyday activity.
We will review the four reminders, which we can contemplate any time to strengthen our motivation to practice, and also talk about the meaning of empowerment and the power and meaning of visualization practice and mantra in the Vajrayana tradition of Buddhism.
Each session will include chanting of the Chenrezig practice and calm abiding (shinay) meditation. The practice will be chanted in Tibetan one day and English the other. Basic instruction in calm abiding meditation will also be provided.
